How I Get Cleared as Your Legal Proxy in Aurora

Every detention facility sets its own requirements. This is the process for the Aurora ICE Processing Center, operated by GEO Group.

Clearance packet the Aurora facility requires:

  • Form G-28: the attorney’s Notice of Entry of Appearance as Attorney or Accredited Representative must be on file to establish the legal relationship.
  • Letter of Authorization: a formal letter on the law firm’s letterhead explicitly authorizing this mobile notary to visit the detainee as a legal assistant or proxy.
  • Notary’s identification: a scanned copy of my government-issued ID submitted with the request. I bring the physical ID to the facility.
  • Advance notice: a formal legal visitation request sent by email at least 24 hours in advance, to clear me through security and reserve a private legal meeting room.

The Process, Step by Step

  1. I send you my clearance documents. A scan of my Colorado driver’s license or state ID and my Colorado Notary Commission Certificate as a PDF (physical copy on request). ICE and GEO Group require a scanned government-issued ID to process a legal proxy’s security clearance.
  2. You draft the Letter of Authorization. On your firm’s letterhead, explicitly naming me (David Quintana) as your contracted legal proxy to visit your detained client.
  3. You submit the packet to the facility. Your DHS Form G-28, the Letter of Authorization, and my ID scan, emailed to the visiting office or Supervisory Deportation Officer at least 24 hours in advance. This clears me through security and reserves a private legal meeting room.
  4. On visit day, I take it from there. I hand the guards the same physical ID used for clearance, meet your client in the legal visitation room, complete the notarization, log it in my journal, and return the documents per your instructions.

What I Need From Your Firm Before the Visit

With this in hand, the visit gets done right the first time.

  • Client details: the detainee’s full name and A-Number, as they appear on your G-28.
  • Documents ready to sign: unsigned, with signature pages flagged. I can print them if you send them securely.
  • Signer identification: tell me in advance what ID your client can access (facilities often hold personal property). Colorado law defines what counts as satisfactory evidence of identity, and I’ll confirm before the visit whether the notarization can be completed.
  • Return instructions: hand delivery, overnight courier (FedEx/UPS), or encrypted scan, and who should receive them.

Fees: the visit fee is quoted up front and covers travel to Aurora and security-processing time. Notarial acts are billed at Colorado’s statutory limit (maximum $15 per act). You get an itemized receipt so you can pass costs through to your client. See my payment policies.

Yes. The attorney of record clears the notary as their legal proxy by submitting a Form G-28, a Letter of Authorization on firm letterhead naming the notary, and a scan of the notary’s government-issued ID to the facility at least 24 hours in advance. Once cleared, the notary meets the detainee in a private legal visitation room.
